The SQA Advanced Diploma in Computing: Software Development allows students to develop a range of specialist technical software development skills and knowledge in programming and systems development. Learners will gain academic, technical, and professional training leading to the skills necessary to design, implement, support, evaluate or manage IT systems in a vast range of industries. It will also allow candidates to develop an awareness of professional IT issues such as legal and ethical considerations. Students will not only have the opportunity to learn the skills to succeed in established software development areas of database management and systems development, but also adopt skills needed to succeed in emerging technologies. The key skill of this course is to develop programming and design skills using state-of-the-art technologies such as mobile applications.
The principal aim of this qualification is to prepare candidates for employment in the field of Software Development. It has been designed to provide a distinctive route within the suite of SQA Advanced Computing awards. The award adopts the object- oriented paradigm as its key focus, reflecting current and anticipated demands from both degree programmes and employment opportunities.
This Group Award is made up of 30 SQA Credits. It comprises 240 SCQF credit points.
Entry Requirements:
- Students to hold a minimum of 55 % aggregate in CBSE Grade X/ Cambridge “O” level/equivalent (Preferred Subjects – Science and Maths/ Technical Subjects).
- Successful completion of a relevant UAE equivalent National Certification of 6 or above.
- Applicants who do not meet these criteria but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered.
Progression:
Articulation arrangements exist between a number of Scottish, UK and international universities where SQA Advanced Certificates and Diplomas will be accepted as advanced entry to either the second or third year of a related degree programme. Depending on the specific degree programme, certain units may be required as part of the SQA Advanced Certificate/Diploma. A high proportion of our candidates have articulated to degree programmes and successfully completed them.
